Emory Quadrangle
Emory’s Quadrangle is a welcoming space intended to be available to—and shared by—Emory students, faculty, and staff for connection, reflection, and informal gathering in support of the University’s academic mission.
From time to time, the University may reserve or close all or part of the Quadrangle for major events (such as the first week of classes, Homecoming, Veterans Day observances, Commencement-related activities, Staff Fest, etc.), maintenance, or other institutional needs. These dates and times (subject to change) are published below.
When the Quadrangle is not reserved or closed, it is available without reservation for shared use by the Emory community for recreational, educational, and casual social gatherings between 7:00 a.m. and midnight.
Examples of appropriate use might include: Carlos Museum lunch breaks for visiting schools; a career fair; a student organization pizza party; a pop-up theater group performance; an outdoor class session; impromptu open-expression activities conducted in accordance with University policies; or other similar activities.
Emory community members using the Quadrangle are expected to follow all University policies, be courteous to other groups and individuals using the space, and clean up after their function.
There is no space or time reservation process for these types of casual gatherings. If confirmed and exclusive use of space is required for an event's success, users should consider traditional campus event venues that can be formally reserved.
Due to the Quadrangle’s proximity to academic facilities as well as its historic landscape, activities that create safety hazards or that impede teaching, learning, or University business are not permitted. Additionally, certain activities are prohibited without express permission from Emory Events.
Prohibited activities include:
- Alcohol
- Amplified sound
- Candles, lamps, or other open-flame sources
- Commercial activities, external advertising, or events with fees
- Helium balloons, kites, or other tethered floating items (due to hospital helicopter safety concerns)
- Stakes, flags, or other items placed into the ground
- Tents and canopies
- Temporary structures (including art installations, inflatables, stages, etc.)
- Vehicles or electric generators
